Test Help

Driving Test
The driving test is the first road to becoming a fully qualified driver. The test duration is approximately forty minutes; the test is straight forward. It is designed to see if you can,

1. Drive to a safe standard
2. Know the Highway Code and demonstrate this through your driving.

Test Routes are designed to:
1. Be as uniform as possible.
2. Include a range of typical road and traffic conditions. You will be given directions in good time, and asked to carry out set exercises. In order to pass the driving test, you must drive without committing any serious fault or without committing more than 15 driving errors of a less serious nature.

Theory Test/Hazard Perception Test.
The theory test for car drivers and motorcyclists is designed to improve the safety and environmental aspects of vehicles.

To pass the exam you must answer at least 30 out of 35 multiple-choice questions correctly.

The core material for the theory test questions are taken from the following publications,

1. The Highway Code.
2. Driving, the essential skills.
3. Know your traffic signs.

It is important that you study not only to pass the tests but also to become a safe driver.

Hazard Perception Test
The Hazard Perception Test was introduced on November 14th 2002, the HPT test lasts for 15 minutes and follows the multiple choices in a new expanded theory test.
Each test contains between 12 and 15 clips, with each clip involving at least one hazard. The test will contain a mix of moving hazards.
Candidates will have the opportunity to see the HPT tutorial twice at the start.

Scoring windows uses a declining scale of 5 to 1 points, according to how soon the candidate indicates recognition of a potential hazard developing.

Marking Arrangements for the Overall Theory Test
The HPT is a pass or fail element within the new theory test, and a candidate who is unsuccessful at either part will need to retake the whole theory test.

Congratulations!!!
You've passed you test but what next?

Pass Pluss

What is Pass plus?

Pass Plus is a course designed for newly qualified by the DSA.
It consists of six specially designed driver-training modules, which cover all possible aspects of driving such as: driving in town, out of town, in all weathers, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways.
Over a minimum of six hours you will cover all of these topics with your instructor, when the pass plus course is completed the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) will issue a certificate that can be produced for your insurer.
This usually results in a discount - often the equivalent to one year's no claims bonus - when you insure your car.

How does it work?

For a start there is No Test, all you have to do is attend for at least six hours worth of tuition and achieve an acceptable standard on each module. That standard can possibly be achieved in one lesson, or maybe more. Once the standard has been achieved, the instructor signs the module off - complete with date. When all six have been completed, the form is sent to DSA so that a certificate can be issued.

The 6 Pass Plus Modules are;

-In Town
-At Night
-Out of Town
-On dual carriageways
-In all Weather
-On Motorways
